The Macau Sporting Club is delighted to announce that the new phenomenon on the poker circuit, Annette Obrestad, will be playing in this year’s Irish Poker Classic. Oberstad, better known by her online alias of Annette15, will be appearing in Cork during this year’s festival, in preparation for her defence of her WSOPE title. At just 18 years of age, Annette became the youngest ever bracelet winner of a WSOP event and also the first ever bracelet winner of a WSOP Main Event to take place off American soil.
Brought here by sponsors, betfair poker, Annette, will also be taking part in a WSOPE satellite to be staged in the Macau Sporting Club over the festival weekend.

This week sees the fifth renewal of the Irish Poker Classic Festival in the Macau Sporting Club in Cork. As has been a common theme with poker tournaments of late, it looks set to be the biggest yet and Betfair are delighted to continue their sponsorship of this prestigious event. Irish Classic Poker Festival 2004 Report
In the southern tip of Ireland, the Macau Sporting Club, Cork, hosted its third Event on the Poker scene during the long bank holiday weekend. For the second year the Annual Irish Classic held at the Macau Sporting Clubs new premises in Cork from July 30th to August 1st,saw fields up almost 200% from the previous year.
From early March the Card Room ran extensive Satellites which generated a prize fund of €10,000.This gave the locals plenty Tournament and Cash Game action throughout the weekend.
The opening event €150 No Limit Hold’em stake,saw Ladborkes sponsored Paddy O’Connor took first place winning €6,980 in the €18,000 prize pool.Also worth a mention was the four members of the Manx Mafia made the final table in their frist live tournament.On Saturday evening the main event was held €500 No Limit Hold’em FREEZEOUT saw 44 entrants compete for a prize pool of €22,000 despite many locals being away at Galway Races.Circuit regulars Mark Greenwood,Russ Cawley David Barnes,who also brought his two sons to play on their frist Ranking event,also a contingent from the Isle of Man and Celebrity The Rogue Trader Nick Leeson.Kevin Barnes (England) took the largest share of the prize money as a Deal was done between the last five players in a well contested main event,the nominal winner was Derry O’Sullivan from Kerry.Due to the long ante structure the final was held on Sunday Afternoon which all players were happy with.
The final event of the weekend, €100 Pot Limit Hold’em/Omaha saw the closest final table of the tournament with Roy “The Boy” Brindley beating Steve Jelinek and Dave “Dangerous” Doyle to claim another win this year.Tournament Manager Ken Corkery reported only positive feedback from players and predicts fields of around 60 for the next event in December Irish Christmas Poker Festival from 3RD –5TH 2004 especially as sponsorship is expected to be in place by then.
